dHe brought World War II to a end in Japan.
F.D.R never told Truman anything about World War II while he was vice president ; only when he took over he realized how bad the situation was. He tried to make peace but Japan refused to back down. He had a hard decision to make, either invade Japan or drop the brand new weapon, the atomic bomb .Within days of drooping the bomb, Japan surrendered and World War II was over.
The Truman Doctrine
After the end of WW II, the Soviet Union tried to spread communism to Turkey and Greece. Truman saw that they need help to keep their freedom. He received money from congress to send aid. Those countries then didn't have to fight for their freedom.
NATO
When Western Europe wanted to make an alliance with other countries, Tuman helped and made NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) . It stated that if any of the countries that signed and agreed needed help, the other countries would help them. The countries that agreed were Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and the United States. NATO is still active to this day. Currently, NATO is operating in Afghanistan, Kosovo, the Mediterranean and off the Horn of Africa.
